Lube: For More Than a Dry Vagina
Posted by Salvatore Gallano, M.S. on Jun 25th 2021
Contrary to popular belief, lube is for more than just dry vaginas. Sure, it does wonders for those experiencing dryness, but I tend to think lube is for everyone and necessary for an optimal sexual experience. Here is why you should seriously consider lubing up your sexual endeavors:
Protect: lube is crucial for the protection of penile, vaginal, and anal tissues. Sex by nature requires friction. The act of stimulating an erogenous zone results in a subtle form of irritation and low-grade inflammation. In the absence of proper lubrication the tissues on the given area will likely become aggravated resulting in excessive soreness, redness, and even tearing. Dial down
Prolong: as mentioned above, lube serves as a buffer to the friction that occurs during sex. Not only does this protect against tissue damage, it can also dial down the intensity of direct stimulation. This may be beneficial for penis owners experiencing premature ejaculation and desire to last longer. Lube may help to prolong your pleasure...who doesn’t want that?
Heighten: heighten sensation and pleasure with a lube that sensitizes, cools, tingles, and/or warms. Choose a lube that does more than just lubricates. There are plenty of lubes on the market that generate specific sensations and have the ability to take just okay sex to the next level. Also in existence are arousal lubes. These are different in that they generally don't produce any specific sensation, such as warming or cooling, but rather increase the sensitivity of the nerves in the penis, vagina, clitoris, nipples, and prostate and result in a heightened experience overall. These lubes turn the volume up on the flow of pleasure resulting from your foreplay and sex.
Strengthen: some lubes have the ability to strengthen the delicate tissues of our sex organs. Quality lubes contain ingredients that actively heal, tone, and balance the integrity of skin, mucosal, and glandular tissues found in our most sensitive areas. One such ingredient (and a very popular one at that) is aloe vera. Aloe Vera is an amazing moisturizer, robust anti-inflammatory agent, and wound healer. Glycerin is another ingredient commonly found in lube. Its humectant properties strengthen tissues and protect against unwanted irritation.
It's common for a vagina owner to think lube isn't needed if they aren't experiencing dryness, but this is a grave mistake! Lube does indeed serve a vital role in combating dryness, but as you can see- the effects of lube go above and beyond just that! Lube is a vagina’s (and a penis’s and anus’s) helping hand. Lube is an irreplaceable side kick whose necessity can be easily overlooked.
